Attitude is greatly shaped by influence and association.

Jim Rohn

My attitude towards planning any event is definitely something that has grown over time. As I’ve become more versed in the hosting/entertaining scene, several people have stuck out and influenced me and my philosophy on events. As you will see, these influencers cover all different aspects of the planning process!

1. My Mom

My mom was the first example in my life of the impact hosting can make. Not only does she cater, but growing up we always had people over or were helping with school fundraisers in some way. To this day, I still use recipes she did because I know they are a hit. She taught me the most about the food side.

2. My High School Job

In high school, I worked as a children’s birthday party host at a family fun center. Fun right? But through this experience, I learned how to make a schedule, keep thing’s going, and to create a positive experience for guests in high stress situations. This is something that has served me well.

3. Martha Stewart

No hosting influencer list is complete without Martha Stewart. She has influenced entertaining so much in every aspect. For me personally, she has impacted my event philosophy the most. She always goes all in to ensure that her guests have the best experience possible, which is something I hope to emulate.

4. That Cheese Plate

That cheese plate is, you guessed it, a cheese board instagramer. She is the first person I go to when I need inspiration for a different twist on a cheese board!

5. Joanna Gaines

Joanna is very passionate about creating comfortable spaces where people can feel at home, whether this be through her interior design work or when she is hosting a gathering. She does this through both creating intentional atmospheres and good food. Providing a comfortable space for people to connect is the ultimate job of a host.

Valerie is best known nowadays for her work on Food Network. She especially emphasizes creating good food with her guests in mind. She shows the importance of knowing your guest and making food that they would like.

7. My Internship

This past year I have been interning with an events production company in New York City. While the type of events they put on are quite large, they emphasize the work hard, play hard mentality. When they host an event, they are also the ones who show up and make it fun. This is so important, regardless of the size of the party.

8. Giada De Laurentiis

Giada is also a food network star, who emphasizes both cooking and parties. In her show she is consistently creating good food that centers around the theme of the gathering she hosts at the end of the show. She is a great inspiration for event ideas.

9. The Kitchn

The Kitchn is a popular food blog online whose recipes I use quite often. They are good at creating content for all levels of experience and the food is good every time.

10. Stone Gable Blog

In this blog, Yvonne talks a lot about creating spaces. She is someone who has greatly influenced my design in decorating and in more formal dinners. She also posts recipes she makes for her own family.
